A Guide: First steps in Neural Networks

7 years ago 0

We are close, really close, with our Neural Network for InteliAthlete.  While working on the platform, our own Max will share his journey along the way… His first post is a simple guide for the clueless programmer that doesn’t know fancy terminology. Not a tutorial for dumb people, his article is simply written in a more basic manner so it is easier to follow by any potential reader – from rookies to professionals – without assuming previous knowledge of the subject matter. Topics: How complicated is it to create Neural Networks? What can Neural Networks be used for? What can’t you do with Neural Networks? When should you use Neural Networks? What exactly IS a Neural Network? What is the difference between a Neural Network and conventional programming? What would be a basic structure for a useful Neural Network? What are input neurons and how many do I need? What are

The Romanian Research and Development team has been hard at work collecting data in Microsoft Azure from multiple sensors. This is what the data looks like from a table tennis match: Next obstacle – how to represent this data as a 3D human body motion.

Microsoft Azure Machine Learning

Microsoft Azure Machine Learning

One of the key elements of our solution is Microsoft Azure’s Machine Learning. As each athlete is different, Machine Learning is leveraged to establish a baseline against which everything else will be compared to. For everyone interested in Machine Learning on Microsoft Azure, please check out: eBook – Microsoft Azure Essentials: Azure Machine Learning This ebook will present an overview of modern data science theory and principles, the associated workflow, and then cover some of the more common machine learning algorithms in use today. We will build a variety of predictive analytics models using real world data, evaluate several different machine learning algorithms and modeling strategies, and then deploy the finished models as machine learning web service on Azure within a matter of minutes. The book will also expand on a working Azure Machine Learning predictive model example to explore the types of client and server applications you can create

Samsung ARTIK 10

ARTIK Application Being Reviewed

8 years ago 0

Today we received an update from the Samsung ARTIK team: We’re writing to let you know that we have your application for an ARTIK Developer Kit. We haven’t forgotten about you! We got lots of love, especially during our first few days of launch – even more than we expected – and we’re excited about the overwhelming interest in ARTIK. This also means it will take us a while to go through all the requests we received. We want to be fair and give everyone a chance to be reviewed equally, so we appreciate your patience as we work to get ARTIK in your hands as soon as possible. We’ll keep you posted on progress. Thanks again for applying for the Alpha Developer Program and we’re looking forward to working with you! For those who don’t know, ARTIK is a family of modules (ARTIK 1, ARTIK 5, ARTIK 10) tailored

Samsung ARTIK – InteliAthlete applies for an Alpha Developer Kit

8 years ago 0

ARTIK is a family of modules (ARTIK 1, ARTIK 5, ARTIK 10) tailored for the Internet of Things (IoT). With a tiered architecture built for performance, optimized power consumption and memory utilization and footprint, ARTIK is designed specifically for a variety of applications, from low-end wearables to powerful hubs with local processing and analytics. ARTIK’s best-in-class security solution includes secure element (SE) and machine learning for anomaly detection, and Trusted Execution Environment (TEE). ARTIK packs the future of IoT into an incredibly small frame. ARTIK 1 has the world’s smallest form factor (12mm x 12mm) in its class and can last for weeks on a single charge. ARTIK 5 uses Samsung ePoP packaging technology to offer the best combination of computing power and storage capacity at its size. With an ARM Octa-core processor, ARTIK 10 can power a smartphone or a media hub. ARTIK’s comprehensive IoT development and deployment platform

Data deluge: MLB rolls out Statcast analytics

9 years ago 0

Which outfielder sprints the fastest and runs the longest to snag line drives into the gap? Which shortstop is best at throwing from the grass to nip the runner at first? Which catcher gets the ball to second base the quickest? A new era in analytics starts Tuesday when Major League Baseball rolls out its Statcast tracking technology during the MLB Network’s broadcast of the St. Louis Cardinals’ game at the Washington Nationals. Real-time access will expand quickly to Fox, ESPN and Turner, then to regional sports networks within about six weeks. By June, fans should be able to look up leaderboards for hitters’ exit velocity, fielders’ route efficiency, speed and distance, and pitchers’ spin rates and arm extension. Cameras and sensors installed at each ballpark capture 120,000 bits per second. Henry Chadwick, who invented the box score in 1859, would be flabbergasted. “Fans are ready for a deeper dive

Azure Stream Analytics

Microsoft announces General Availability of Azure Stream Analytics

9 years ago 0

Good news indeed. Today, Microsoft announced that Azure Stream Analytics “generally available”. No longer in BETA, general availability pricing will be in effect on June 1, 2015. For those who don’t know, Azure Stream Analytics is a real-time stream processing engine in the cloud that helps uncover insights from devices, sensors, infrastructure, and applications. Developers describe their desired event stream processing and transformations in an SQL-like query language, and the system abstracts the complexities of the parallelization, distributed computing, and error handling. Temporal semantics are built in. Some new capabilities include support for automatically refreshing reference data, improved job diagnostics, and the ability to create new Azure Services for inputs and outputs within the context of your Stream Analytics job. These enhancements help one achieve a lower cost real-time streaming processing solution in the cloud. Without giving away too much of our secret sauce, what we are interested the most

Machine Learning plays a very big role for us. Once the data is collected via sensors from the human body, it’s collected in the cloud. There, machine learning must identify a baseline for each athlete and compare subsequent swings / pitches / throws / strokes to this particular baseline. The system must learn and adapt, be intelligent. Our R&D team in Romania is looking into Windows Azure as the platform of choice for the Machine Learning. If you want to find out more about Machine Learning and R on the Microsoft Azure cloud platform, you can download a free eBook: Data Science in the Cloud with Microsoft Azure Machine Learning and R

Microsoft announces Azure IoT Suite

9 years ago 0

At Microsoft Convergence 2015 in Atlanta, Microsoft officially announced the Azure IoT Suite. From Microsoft’s official announcement: More and more, we’re seeing the Internet of Things (IoT) become part of the fabric of business, helping converge an organization’s assets, data and processes with people and business systems. Today, this intersection is allowing enterprises to uncover new opportunities, create new business models and transform their operations – from elevators, to particle accelerators and washing machines – to become truly digital businesses. Microsoft’s vision is to help companies thrive in this era of IoT, delivering open, scalable platforms and services that any company, whether startup or the most established global enterprises, can use to create new value, right now. Nadella mentioned our investments in the Windows 10 IoT operating system for devices, and equally with the Azure IoT Suite, we’re bringing together a variety of Azure services to help our customers accelerate
